What "85%" actually means

We say creators keep 85%. Numbers like that are easy to print and easy to hide behind, so here is the arithmetic in full.

What it is a percentage of

85% of the amount that reaches us after payment processing. Not 85% of what the fan typed in.

That distinction matters, and platforms that skip it are being slippery. If a fan tips ₦5,000, the card network and the processor take their fee before the money arrives. What we then split is the remainder.

Worked example

A fan tips ₦5,000.

• Processor fee, roughly 1.5% plus a flat charge: about ₦145
• Amount that reaches the platform: ₦4,855
• Creator share at 85%: ₦4,127
• Platform share at 15%: ₦728

So the creator receives around ₦4,127 of a ₦5,000 tip. That is about 82.5% of what the fan actually typed, not 85%.

We could quote the second number and call it 85%. We would rather you knew the first.

What else comes out

Refunds and chargebacks. If a payment is reversed after you have been credited, the amount is deducted from your balance. Chargebacks can arrive months later.

Withdrawal fees. Moving money to your bank costs something. That charge is shown before you confirm, never after.

Tax. We do not withhold tax for you, and we are not your accountant. What you owe depends on where you live and how much you earn. Keep records.

Why not 100%

Because storage, bandwidth, transcoding, fraud checks and support cost money, and a platform that pretends otherwise is either subsidising itself with investor money it will later need to recover, or planning to change the terms once you depend on it.

15% is what we think covers running this properly. If that changes, we will say so before it changes, not after.
